Local Government Week 2024

Griffith City Council successfully celebrated Local Government Week from July 29 to August 5. The week-long event was a chance for Council to highlight the various functions and services it provides to the community.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said that Local Government Week is a great time to recognise the vast array of activities and services that Council offers to our Community. “It’s a great time to not only celebrate the efforts of Councillors and Council staff, but also our volunteers who selflessly donate their time to Council and Community initiatives.”

Council volunteers give their time to our facilities such as Pioneer Park Museum, as well as sit on Council Committees as Community Representatives.

A morning tea in honour of these volunteers was held on Tuesday, with Councillor Curran thanking the volunteers, “Volunteers are an important piece of the puzzle in our community. We value their commitment to making a difference in the community.”

Council’s engagement team was out and about on Thursday, holding a special Local Government Week Council Café at Griffith Central Shopping Centre. This saw a great turnout by residents, taking the opportunity to talk to Councillors and staff, while enjoying giveaways.

Overall, Council's Local Government Week was a resounding success, showcasing the diverse services and dedicated efforts of both Council staff and community volunteers. The week’s events, highlighted the strong community spirit that drives our local initiatives.
