Thinking of running for Council?

Deciding whether to put your hand up to represent your community as a local councillor is a big decision. So that you can be impactful and effective in the role (if you are elected!), it is important to know what is in store.

Griffith City Council held Candidate Information with Emma Broomfield from Locale Learning on becoming a Councillor, how local government works and what your job will be if you are elected.

Application for Non-Residential Roll 

Non-resident ratepayers are encouraged to enrol and vote in the upcoming local government elections.
The non-residential roll enables non-resident owners, occupiers, and rate-paying lessees of rateable land within the Griffith City Council area to have a say in who is elected to Council.
To vote in the September elections, non-residents must register by 6pm on 5 August 2024.

Eligibility criteria for voting as a non-resident in a council area are include:

  • You must be an owner of rateable land in the council area, or
  • An occupier or rate-paying lessee of rateable land in the council area.

Non-residential rolls are prepared and certified by a council's General Manager, and the NSW Electoral Commissioner must confirm the eligibility of voters listed on the non-residential roll.
For those wishing to be included on the non-residential roll of another council area, please contact the respective local council office or visit their website for more information.
You can check your residential enrolment at the Australian Electoral Commission  (AEC) website to at check.aec.gov.au or by calling the AEC on 13 23 26.
