Thinking Of Running For Council?

As the NSW Local Government Elections approach in September 2024, aspiring leaders are encouraged to step forward and embrace the opportunity to serve our community by running for Council.Serving as a Councillor not only fulfils a civic duty but is also a chance to drive positive change and represent the voices of our residents.
Being a Councillor offers a unique platform to influence decisions that directly impact the lives of our community members. Councillors play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our local area.
Griffith City Council is holding a number of candidate information sessions in the coming months.
Council will be hosting an informal Q&A candidate session will be held on Monday, 15 April 2024 at 6pm at the Council Chambers, 1 Benerembah Street, Griffith.
Council is hosting two information sessions presented by Emma Broomfield, Locale Learning, (one in person and one virtually) for those who are interested in finding out more about becoming a Councillor.
An online information session will be held using Zoom on Wednesday, 1 May 2024 from 6pm to 7.30pm. If you can’t attend live, you will be able to access the recording via the Locale Learning e-learning platform.
An in-person information presentation will be held on Monday, 24 June 2024, from 6pm to 8pm at the Council Chambers, 1 Benerembah Street, Griffith.
These introductory information sessions are essential for all potential candidates considering standing in the elections. It will help you make an informed decision about whether becoming a Councillor is the right fit for you.
The sessions, which will be informal and interactive, are an opportunity to hear about the role of Council and its services and functions, the roles and responsibilities of the Mayor and Councillors and what is expected of a Councillor including the skills and attributes required.
Speak with experienced women in local government at the ALGWA Getting Women Elected candidate workshop on Saturday, 18 May 2024, 10am - 1pm at Council Chambers.
