New lighting for car parks and footpaths as part of Her Way

New lighting will be installed at car parks in the CBD and along footpaths in Griffith to help enhance feelings of safety and inclusivity as part of Council’s ongoing Her Way 2680 project.
The lighting upgrades will be rolled out over the coming months and are a crucial step forward in creating safe and welcoming public spaces and transport hubs for the local community, particularly of women and gender diverse people.
Through extensive co-design sessions with the community, the need for improved lighting infrastructure emerged as a top priority, prompting Her Way 2680 to develop a lighting plan for several precincts.
McCook and Henry Morell Car parks are slated to receive upgraded lighting infrastructure, while Banna Lane will see the installation of temporary solar lighting in the near future.
Additionally, new solar lighting will be installed along both new and existing footpaths connecting Ulong and Kooyoo bridges, to brighten these key active transport connections, particular at night.
The project is part of the Safer Cities: Her Way program, a collaborative partnership between Transport for NSW and Council that aims to help improve perceptions of safety in our cities and towns, particularly for women, girls and gender diverse people.
By investing in these lighting upgrades, we aim to enhance the physical environment but also foster an improved sense of security and belonging for everyone in the community.
These improvements signify a step towards creating more inclusive and accessible transport hubs and public spaces, where everyone feels safe to live, work, and play.
