Flickerfest Screening Aussie Short Films at the Griffith Regional Theatre

Celebrating 33 years, Flickerfest is back at Griffith Regional Theatre on Friday 23 February 2024. Flickerfest is Australia’s leading Academy® Qualifying and BAFTA recognised short film festival, and continues to present A-list short film programmes recognised amongst the best in the world with hand-picked films - this year from the festival’s record 3,400 entries!
The nine short films screening are all entertaining, inspiring, award-winning and fresh from their premieres in competition at Flickerfest Bondi. The Best of Australian Shorts programme shines a spotlight on the incredible short film talent that exists in our emerging Australian industry, with a host of Australian stories honouring our unique identity and culture.
Highlights include ‘Yeah The Boys’, Flickerfest 2024 Best Australian Short Film winner, which follows six young Aussie men as they sink beers over an afternoon and well into the night. Equal parts larrikin, brutal, and tender, this short film scored by The Avalanches is an observation of Australian masculine identity and our nation’s relationship with drinking culture. The beautifully shot ‘In Cold Water’, which won the Flickerfest 2024 Best Screenplay in an Australian Short Film, is about an elderly woman’s peaceful retirement being interrupted when her husband takes up a bizarre new hobby.
Other highlights include the darkly comedic story ‘Ashes’, starring Michael Caton and Michala Banas, ‘Favourites’ when a family camping trip turns deadly, and ‘Fences’ which stars Indigenous actor Meyne Wyatt and Scottish-Australian actor Colin Friels.
Griffith Regional Theatre Manager, Marg Andreazza, said “Flickerfest is really something our patrons look forward to each year, it is always a great night out and celebrates Australian stories and talent on the big screen. Come along and enjoy some incredible short films with a complimentary glass of wine or soft drink and slice of pizza during interval.”
Flickerfest Best of Australian Shorts is screening at Griffith Regional Theatre on Friday 23 February at 7.30pm.
The programme is available to view on the Theatre website and patrons are advised that the programme contains mature themes and children under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult.
