Artist Completes Massive Mural On Griffith Water Tank
Thursday, 24 Oct 2024
After six weeks of hard work and nearly 900 cans of spray paint, Griffith’s newest landmark, the striking mural on the 9ML Water Tank on Scenic Hill, is now complete.
Renowned silo and tank artist HEESCO created the large-scale project, blending themes of water, multiculturalism, agriculture, manufacturing, and Indigenous/First Nations heritage into an eye-catching artwork that celebrates Griffith’s rich and diverse community.
Despite facing some delays, HEESCO said he was happy with the final result.
“This was one of the biggest and most time-consuming projects I’ve ever undertaken. I’m glad that it’s now something everyone in the Griffith community, as well as visitors, can enjoy,” said HEESCO.
“Using the four themes was a bit of a challenge and this is definitely the most detailed work I’ve created. It’s full colour and detail which really sets it apart from other murals I’ve done.
“I want to thank the community for putting their trust in me and giving me this opportunity.”
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran, praised HEESCO’s dedication and the mural's impact.
“We are incredibly grateful to HEESCO for his tremendous effort in creating something so iconic for Griffith,” said Mayor Curran.
“We didn’t make his job easy with so many themes to cover, but what he’s achieved is spectacular. The way he’s woven all these elements together is truly incredible.
“I’m sure this mural will become a key tourist attraction, drawing visitors to town and encouraging them to explore everything the region has to offer. There will also be a potential increase in visitation to Pioneer Park Museum as people visit the mural.”
HEESCO worked six days a week, often putting in 10-hour days, to complete the mural, which now stands as a proud symbol of Griffith’s unique identity and culture.
