Council Provides An Update Regarding Relocation Of Animals

Thursday, 16 May 2024

Council Provides An Update Regarding Relocation Of Animals Griffith City Council would like to provide an update regarding the relocation of the animals residing at Lake Wyangan.
Following careful consideration and under guidance from the relevant authorities, including the National Parks Wildlife Service and the Department of Primary Industries, Council can confirm that the ducks, chickens, and cockatoo have successfully been rehomed.
Additionally, the goats will be moving to a property equipped with appropriate fencing.
Meanwhile the deer, a prescribed species, requires special licensing for their transportation. Efforts are underway to ensure their safe relocation.
Council's Director of Infrastructure and Operations, Phil King, emphasised, "All rehoming efforts have been conducted in consultation with the necessary authorities, ensuring compliance with regulations and the welfare of the animals involved."
“Council is working in consultation with National Parks Wildlife Service and Department of Primary Industries to relocate the kangaroo and emu to ensure a smooth transition to their new habitats,” he said.
“The peacock has never been confined to the display area and will continue to roam the Lake Wyangan Foreshore.”
The decision to remove the animals and enclosure was made during the Extraordinary Meeting held on Tuesday 7 May 2024.
Council reassures residents that every effort is being made to ensure the well-being of all animals involved.
